As most of you know, on January 12th, 2010, a devastating earthquake occurred near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, causing the collapse of several buildings and an unknown number of fatalities. At least 1.8 million people live within the area of the earthquake’s highest intensity.
For those of us who want to help, the Red Cross is accepting donations through its International Response Fund. Donations will provide immediate relief and long term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. The American Red Cross has expressed a preference for cash donations to in-kind supplies in mass casualty situations such as the Haitian earthquake.
Donations to the International Response Fund can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at www.redcross.org. Cell phone users can also text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10.00 to the American Red Cross relief efforts for Haiti. The amount will be added to your cell phone credit card bill.
Please help in this humanitarian aid effort to assist the people of Haiti.
